Review: Alpha Protocol (Xbox 360)

Alpha Protocol

Alpha Protocol is subtitled as The Espionage RPG and that truely is what it is.
Running on the Unreal Engine 3 at first glance it may look like your standard over
the shoulder third person shooter, but don't be fooled as it mostly depends on the
points you spend on your skills as you level up.

3DS Released, Indifference Ensues

The Nintendo 3DS launched in North America today, bringing glasses-free 3D to the hands of anyone with $250. I am going to skip the silly 3D comments I could make here and actually just give my thoughts on the system, as well as the launch in general. The 3DS already launched in Japan in February boasting not only its 3D gimmick, but also some much improved performance and, much appreciated, better internet accessibility over its predecessor. The thing is, there is not much incentive to upgrade from your old DS at this point. Read More

Up Next: No Really, I Mean It This Time

Alright, so, I may or may not have promised reviews of games and such last time I was here, but this time, I'm playing for keeps! I was having a ridiculous DNS issue which made it actually impossible for me to access the site here without connecting to some spotty, neighbouring unsecured wireless network (shhhhhhhhhh), or using a proxy to get in, which our site tools wouldn't actually let me login from. All of that is now in the past however, as just today, my connection issues have been resolved! So, expect reviews of both Mass Effect 2, AND Dwarf Fortress in the near future, and welcome our newest writer, Adam Holcomb to the site!

Up Next: The Week Ahead for NRG

So, it's Monday, which seems as good a day as any to talk about what we will be covering this week on the site. Expect me to write a review of Mass Effect 2. After that, well, I still have not decided which game I will be reviewing after that. I have two options, it is just a matter of picking one at this point. Josh might post something at some point. He has been playing a lot of Rift, but I have no idea if he intends to review it because MMO reviews are kind of weird. We could also have a brand new writer giving you a review of Dwarf Fortress for the PC. It depends, though, on whether we make an account for him. We have also worked out the logistics of some new content we want to provide in the near future, so keep an eye out for that. Also, be sure to check out our now functional About Us section. I am fairly confident that Josh will have a bio of himself up there soon to fill it out. There you have it. Keep checking in for more updates and such as we refine what it is we are doing here. Yeah!

Review: Halo: Reach (XBOX 360)

I refuse to write image descriptions here
The day has finally arrived. I know you have all been anxiously awaiting this moment since it was announced last September (Right? Guys? Hello?). So... uh... This is a review of that one Halo game what came out last year. I feel like I would be doing a great injustice by not immediately jumping directly into the review, so I will not give you an overly long introduction with sentences that ramble on incoherently, long past when the sentence clearly should be stopped entirely by the person who may or may not be writing this overwhelmingly anticipated review of this game which is a prequel to the games in the Halo franchise. ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, I'll start now.

Manner Up, Internet

My ISP continues to deny me the ability to do anything whatsoever on the site, so my review of Halo: Reach is still delayed. Unfortunately, I cannot actually go on other people's networks to post full reviews because other people have some of the worst network stability in the history of the world, so I am limited to posting short news updates like this one. Josh has posted a review of Fortune League you can read in the meantime, or you can go back and read our other reviews instead. Mass Effect 2 will be the review I write immediately after the Reach review goes up. Eventually. Maybe. <3

Delays

Due to some unforeseen server issues, we've pushed back our review of Reach, originally intended to go up last Friday. Don't worry, the review will still go up, likely sometime later this week once we deal with the problem. You can also expect a review of Black Ops to follow the Reach review, and we might get around to filling out the About Us section of the site. Maybe? I don't know. Maybe.

Review: Deadly Premonition (XBOX 360)

If I was told to sum up Deadly Premonition in one sentence, I am not entirely sure I would be able to do so. This D-List survival horror game is just... SEE, I GOT NOTHING! Well, it is actually not true that I have nothing to say about Deadly Premonition. In all honesty, I could ramble on about this game for about a week before I run out of new things to say about it. In the interest of not writing a 25000 word report on the game, however, I will jump right into my review of the game by cutting off my intro in the middle of this senten-

Review: Starcraft II (PC)

Pew Pew

Alright, I admit it; I have always had a soft spot for Blizzard games. I spent inordinate amounts of my youth playing Diablo II and its expansion, and spent even more time playing the widely successful MMORPG that is World of Warcraft. However, I could never really get into their Real-Time Strategy games. I played through the campaign of Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, but never had any desire to touch the original Starcraft or its expansion Brood War. This is not Blizzard's fault by any means. I just cannot bring myself to play RTS games. They are a different breed of animal. I just want to shoot things when I play games, and asking me to balance resource management and army composition while still focusing on tactical positioning and the like is a fairly daunting task. That being said, Starcraft II manages to not only makes you want to play through its thrilling story, but will have you coming back for more once you are finished.
